I need to submit a letter of intent/personal statement as part of the admission process for a Master of Public Administration Program. An idea and/or relevant point to include in this personal statement relates to the following: I already have a Master of Arts in Counseling, which involves a lot of clinical knowledge (counseling individuals, dealing with client’s problems, provide a clinical interpretation of client’s problem, etc.). Therefore, by pursuing this master’s degree, I gained clinical skills and I am very satisfied with this. However, since my master’s program in counseling was very clinical, I feel that I need to gain knowledge with regards to the “administrative” aspect of counseling agencies, social services agencies and non profit in order to consider myself a successful professional and contribute to the field of human services (e.i. nonprofit, public sector). The Master of Public Administration program will provide this type of knowledge.
