Practicum Leadership II (Learning Agreement) Goals and Proposal
The nursing leadership II practicum is designed to promote an increased understanding of the nursing administrative leadership role through active participation in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of evidence-based practice. Graduates are expected to apply current research findings, utilize nursing theory, integrate nursing administrative practices, gain hands on experience, and work collaboratively with other nursing leaders and healthcare professionals. The practicum experience will foster graduate students’ professional growth as a nursing administrative leader and ultimately promote improved patient care outcomes.
Directions: Plan your leadership development by writing personal leadership practicum learning goals. These practicum learning goals will serve several purposes:
• To provide a guide or structure for the leadership practicum.
• To serve as a guide and reminder to you, the preceptor, and the faculty supervisor of the academic purpose and activities of the internship, regarding both the learning and leadership skills to be fostered by implementation of the practicum EBP project; and
• To provide the basis for evaluation and validation of the learning gained from the experience.
Before you write your learning goals, a good place to start is with the nursing program and practicum course outcomes and the widely accepted AONE administrative and evidence-based practice (EBP) competencies that are important to incorporate into this leadership practicum. These documents can be viewed in the Read and View submodule. Practicum goals should be:
• Clearly written
• Realistic and measurable
• Maintain high standards
• Congruent with leadership and EBP competencies
• Be signed off by the preceptor and used to guided weekly goals and approved by the faculty member
