A 1500 word care study focusing on a service user the student has met in practice, using the evidence base to support the negotiated care and treatment.

The student will also explore alternatives to the current plan, using a bio-psycho-social approach with the principles of the recovery model. Introduction (250 words) where you set the direction of the essay, give an outline of the type of placement (i.e. acute in-patient, etc.), provide brief details of the service users profile (i.e. gender. age, diagnosis, etc.) and your reason for choosing this service user. You MUST respect confidentiality throughout the essay. You may use a fictitious name for the service user but no information should be given that could identify the service user and the placement. Main body (1000 words) is your Care study. This is where you demonstrate your ability to discuss and explore the appropriateness and effectiveness of the treatment and care package as agreed with the service user and as implemented. You are required to focus your care study on the treatment and care plan as negotiated with the service user, discuss the evidence base and evaluate its impact in improving the service users health and well being. For example, the type of interventions used i.e. biological (chemotherapy), psychological (talking therapies) or social (activity therapies), etc. Please include a made up template copy (totally anonymised) of the agreed treatment/care plan in the appendix. Your care study supported by relevant evidence from the literature should enable you to explore and discuss for example, the rationale for the treatment and care approaches adopted, their appropriateness based on available evidence, their clinical effectiveness/outcomes in promoting and enabling the recovery and well-being of your chosen service user. Reflect upon your own involvement with the service user and contribution in care delivery. Discuss also whether different care and therapeutic approaches could have been taken to achieve better outcomes. Conclusion (250 words) is your opportunity to reflect on what this care study has taught you and how it may impact your future practice especially in caring for people with long term mental health condition and promoting their recovery and well-being.
