Welcome to the third week of Professional Aspects of Advanced Nursing Practice. This week, we will review APNs and prescriptive authority, credentialing, and clinical privileges for the APRN. You will read select content from your textbook and participate in a discussion.
This week, we will review obstacles, the regulatory process, and the future of APNs and prescriptive authority. We will also look at the purpose of credentialing and the state impact of credentialing APNs.

Initial Post
Go to your state’s Board of Nursing website and print out an APN application. Answer the following questions in an initial post to the discussion board:
• How much money will it cost for you to receive your APN license?
• Are you required to keep your RN license or will your licenses be combined?
• Are you required to have a collaborating physician to practice?
• Are you required to have a collaborating physician sign your application for a license?
• Identify what a DEA license is and how you go about getting one (hint: this is federal).
• How much will this DEA license cost?
• About how much time (days/weeks) will it take for you to acquire all of your credentialing before you are able to begin practicing?
• What about this information either surprised you or poses the greatest challenge for you in our professional development? Explain.
