When referring to the western civilization most are quick to think about the western states which were America and Europe. However what most fail to know is that western civilization started during the Greek and Roman civilization and then spread to the western nations who have been carrying it since. Western civilization which is the modernization of states from the traditional method of life to the modern one was spread around the world by the western states through association with other states, conquests and colonization. Westernization was formed from three distinct traditions: the classical culture of Greece and Rome, the Christianity religion and the enlightenment of the modern era (Kurth 5). Like all the things that happen in the world it comes with its heavy price, western civilization has both its positive and negative impacts in the world to both the pioneers of the civilization and its beneficiaries. The western civilization was able to promote the development and advancement of different cultures; it also helped nations to do away with some of their primitive cultures and promoted education which helped most people with the awareness of their humanity, individualization and nature. In simple terms western culture broadened the mind and view of the human race to a world that they never knew existed at all. With these developments of the western culture it would be hard for one to see that such a culture would have any negative impact in the world. As much as the culture brought something good that helped the people it came with its prices. The knowledge that westernization brought to all these states turned back at them with most of their colonies fighting them for independence and the other nations started fighting the western countries for supremacy. The western culture also made the people forget about their cultures and adopt the same culture all over this made the distinctions of cultures to disappear and the uniqueness of cultures that made the word diverse to vanish as all people were adapting to the same western culture. At this point we will take a look of all the developments that the western cultures made to the world under the following subheadings: artistic, political, technological, economic, social, philosophical, religious and military developments. Artistic Developments these are the developments that were brought to the world of art by the western culture. The practice of art like music, dancing, poetry, visual art, architecture and stories were already in existence before westernization but what westernization did was to modify these artistic features in a western way that made then even more appealing. Westernization saw the emergence or artistic eras like romantism and art renaissance. Political Development in the early times there was no definite way in which the nations ruled themselves. The emergence of the western culture saw that political development in place and defined. Greece as one of the founders of the western culture contributed the idea of the republic while Rome contributed to the idea of an empire. They further added more ideas to the political development with Greece bringing about the idea of liberty and Rome brought the idea of law which when put together give the importance of law in politics (Kurth 6). Technological Developments these are the developments in the way things are done. Technology development is something that happens with the changing time to improve the way the people lived and did their work. The making of tools and the use of fire to cook food was among the first steps to technological changes in the human race. Even before westernization people always found better and efficient ways to survive. Most of the work was done by the human beings and the animals which was every hard and due to the amount of work it took longer than expected to do the work. Westernization saw the introduction of mechanical devices, use of inanimate power like steam and coal to run the machines and there was improvement in the getting and working with raw materials (Landes 1). It also saw the improvement of communication by introduction of computers and the discoveries of medicine in the scientific world. Economic Developments these developments went along way to improve how business was conducted in those areas. In the ancient era business transactions were conducted through the barter method i.e. this was the exchange of goods for other goods. Westernization saw the introduction of copper and silver which were a form of money for the buying of goods Social Developments this saw the change in the way the people related amongst themselves. Through westernization the people came to be aware of the value of human life and that each one was special and precious and hence deserved to be treated fairly. These practices that were unjust to the human kind like slavery, torture and vicious abuse became unacceptable in the society (Huntington 321). Philosophical Developments this is the irrational thinking and the assumptions that people make about an idea or happening. The western culture came about with the broadening of the idea of the human mind and gives them the need to yearn for knowledge. This made the ancient man more curious with his nature and he wanted to know more about it and his existence. Religious Developments these were brought about by westernization during the Christianity. Some people of the ancient age did not believe in any super being and that there was a greater being that ruled and oversaw their existence.
