There are many overlapping helping systems in our country. For these systems to protect those they are intended to protect, they must be inclusive. For this week’s assignment, you will first need to identify three social service agencies in your local community that serve people with the social problem you discussed in Weeks 1 and 6. (Use an appropriate definition of the local community for where you live geographically. If you live in a city, that may mean within a two-mile radius. If you live in a more rural area, it may mean within a fifty-mile radius).
Develop a paper that includes the following:
Provide a brief overview of the community you are assessing.
Create a list of at least five characteristics/services you believe a social service agency must have/offer to treat the social problem you are investigating. Use the resources you have collected while studying this social problem for previous assignments to create this list. Be sure to include the professional role of social workers in this list of characteristics.
For each organization, write a one-paragraph assessment of how well they meet the criteria outlined in question two for treating the identified social problem.
Using what you have learned about your social problem and social welfare systems, are there adequate resources to treat this problem in your community? Are the services offered to address this social problem doing their part to advance human rights or social/economic/environmental justice? In answering this question, refer to the specific agencies you identified in part three to assess your particular community.
Using your knowledge of micro-practice with people who experience this social problem, think like a macro-level social worker and discuss ONE policy change that you would suggest to improve services for this particular social problem. This policy should be at either the state or federal level.
