Write a brief commentary (500 words minimum), reflecting upon the leadership of a person you admire from any era in history, in any part of the world. This leader should be a person who is working for, or has worked for, a cause you believe in. They can be a person who is well-known or obscure.
Brainstorm and address the following points in your commentary, which should be written in an essay format (not Q&A format):
• Why do you find this person inspiring?
• What sets this person apart from others?
• How does this person engage, sustain, or garner respect from followers?
• What bases of power does this person use to influence the attitudes, values, or behaviors of others — referent, expert, legitimate, reward, coercive, or information power. Provide an example in your commentary.
• What type of power does this person use to mobilize for the cause — position power or personal power, or both. Provide an example in your commentary.
• How does this person enact ethical principles in their work — respects others, serves others, shows justice, manifests honesty, or builds community? Provide an example in your commentary.
Include a photograph of the leader with your commentary. Bold font the key concepts used.
You are encouraged to write in the first person. It is not necessary to have citations. It does, however, need to draw from the course content, demonstrate critical-thinking, and have an organized flow.
