Since the turn of the century a theory has begun to emerge concerning the need for cultural competence in the delivery of healthcare; or at least taking into account an individuals sensitivities and circumstances. The new theory centres around the Department of Healths (2012) claim that there are over 15 million people of mixed ethnicity with at least one long-term health condition, that is going to require access to one or more primary/secondary care services. Therefore using the case study of Anwar Malik, a 54 year old, Type 2 diabetes patient, we will establish what primary and secondary care services are available to service users with long-term conditions; and whether medical practitioners are taking into account the individuals’ sensitivities and circumstances so that the service being offered is individualised.
