GUIDELINES FOR THE LEADERSHIP ASSESSMENT SYNTHESIS PAPER
Note: This paper must be submitted to SafeAssign for plagiarism check. This paper is a comprehensive leadership assessment of an individual who has a nursing administrative position in a hospital (such as Director of Nursing or Nurse Manager)
Although you will need to define the status and title of the position, you are not to use identifying names of the person or the setting. Descriptions of the role and the setting are required. You will need to access the information from a job description, expectations for the role, performance appraisal guidelines, and required competencies.
The paper will be a minimum of five double-spaced pages in length and maximum of 10 pages, excluding the cover sheet and the reference list.
Rubric:
1. Description of the general hospital health care system and how the nursing department functions within the hospital setting (10 %)
2. Description of nursing administrative position including fiscal responsibilities and reporting relationship. (10%)
3. Description of the nursing care delivery models and technology used (including Electronic Health Record such as EPIC) in the health care system. (10%)
4. Description of the leadership characteristics of the nurse manager/administrator including leadership style and the sources of power frequently utilized. Provide specific examples. Use literature to support description of leadership style (10%)
5. Description of the communication strategies utilized by the nurse manager/ administrator. Provide examples and use literature to support description of communication strategies. (10%)
6. Description of the decision-making, problem solving and conflict resolution skills of the nurse manager/ administrator. Provide examples and use literature to support description of the decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution skills. (10%)
7. Discussion of standards of practice, innovations, specific projects recently implemented by the nurse manager/ administrator. (10%)
8. Contributions of the nurse manager/administrator to nursing as a profession. (10%)
9. Writing mechanics 10% APA & Organizational Chart (10%)
