CASE STUDY
Master JD is a13-year-old Caucasian male student with a history of ADHD who was seen today for a follow up therapy at the clinic with mother for an impulse control or conduct disorder. The patient’s mother states that her son’s grades are going down, he is getting into fist fights at school, he is becoming more disobedient at home and at school. Pt occasionally skips his medication in the morning. Pt states “I can’t sleep at night when I take my medication that is why I refuse to take it at times” Pt is extremely energetic, impulsive, talkative, and fidgety, with a short attention span. Pt hasn’t taken his medication for about a month. Motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy were utilized during the family therapy. Pt and mother role played how Pt will take his medications and how Pt will give his cell phone to his mother and go to bed timely. Both Master JD and his mother were educated about sleep hygiene during their family therapy session. Pt was referred to his psychiatrist for evaluation and medication refill. F/U next week.
