The topic you choose is up to you. A word of caution: it is best to pick a settingthat allows you to demonstrate your understanding of course material andyou can connect it to something personal. PAPER STRUCTURE:Your paper should have four parts: 1) Introduction: a short history of your setting. How does social inequality vary in your setting? Why is analyzing socialinequality in this setting important? 2) Describe how gender, race, class, sexualityshapes peoplesexperiences in this setting. This can involve the discussion of hegemonic masculinity, cultural relativism, matrix of domination,
doing gender, gendered organizations, etc. You must cover at least fourterms from class here.This should be the longest part of your paper. 3) Research in depth some of the policies that the government has in challenging the inequalities you have identified. What allows gender in this context to persist? What structural forces reify inequality here? 4) Propose your owncriticalsolutions to the problems you identified throughout your paperindividual and structural. You should use peer-reviewed sociological literature throughout your paper to support your claims, both in regardsofthe social contextitself and in your argument about what may or may not work in solving the inequalities you identified in part II.Your paper mustdo the following at the minimum: 1) Use at least foursociologicalconcepts from classin the analysis of yoursetting.2)Refer to at least threedifferent course chaptersin the analysis of your context.3) Include at least threeoutside the classpeer-reviewedsociologicalsourcesin the analysis of your occupation(in addition to the threerequired course readings). Please consult with an AU social science librarian if you are not clear on how to find peer-reviewed sources for your topic. 4) Describe at least one social policy that exists in the U.S today to deal with some of the inequalities you identify in your analysis. 5) Propose at least twoindividual andtwostructural solutions to solving the inequalities you identify in your analysis. Explain why you believe these solutions may work. What can you do yourself? 6) Display your deep understanding of how social structure shapes the experiences of people7) Use only peer-reviewed academic references in your paper(with the exception of any statistical resources you may be using such as Bureau of Labor Statistics, Census or General Social Survey). You can use Sociological Abstractsor a similar database to locate these references. Your references should be diverse; at least one journal article, one book and one book chapter. The other two references can be either of these options. You may use more than five peer-reviewed references. The goal of these papers is to demonstrate your understanding of how agency and structure work together to shape human experience. Your paper must show me you know what structure and agency means forsolving some of the inequalities that people experience on daily basis. PAPER FORMAT1) Include your name, course name ANDpapertitle 2) Use Times New Roman 12 points or less, 1 point margin 3) The paper should be 4-6pages (double-spaced) in length, not including references. 4) The paper should include both in-text references and a separate bibliography.You must use ASA style citations for your references. 5) The papers must be well organized and clearly written.
