An introduction typically begins with a few general statements (three to five) about the topic followed by a purpose. An example of a purpose statement is: “The purpose of this discussion is to discuss at least three reasons why evidence-based practice (EBP) is relevant to nursing.†In addition, this discussion will define the research gap, how to bridge the gap, how EBP helps, and the key components of EBP. Remember, paragraphs have at least three to five substantive statements. A good introduction should stand on its own. In other words, the reader should be able to read the introduction and fully understand what is in the paper. All responses should be in paragraph form.

Define EBP with a reference then tell why EBP is relevant to nursing practice.

Define the research-practice gap with a reference and then describe four different ways in which we can bridge the gap.
Key Components of EBP
Describe the three components of EBP with a reference. For each of these, describe why they are important.
Conclusion
A good conclusion typically does not contain any references but is a summary of the major points in the paper. A good conclusion should stand on its own. In other words, the reader should be able to read the conclusion and have a good idea of what the paper was about.
