You will see that a significant number of individuals, mostly women and children, but some men too, are victims of violent acting-out behavior by their intimate partners. These behaviors have given rise to formal clinical labeling, including battered child syndrome and battered woman syndrome. Both of these syndromes are being considered for formal inclusion in the new edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition (DSM-V), scheduled to be released in May 2013.
