Explain advantages/disadvantages of a range of methods used by psychologists including experiments, correlation, observation, case study questionnaire.
Our experiment of memory recall process was in a room of 16 female participants and 1 male..A list of words were read out by an examiner with a 2 second pause between words, and then we had to write down all that we could remember. The extraneous variables were-noise outside, people talking, lighting, temp, people walking past, examiner standing on one side of room.we were not aware of this experiment about to take place.we were not given an option.the design used was an independent group design. The sample used was opportunity sample. Independent Variable was the location of word.Dependent variable was recall of words.
Introduction-brief discussion on Primacy and recency effect eg Glanzer and Cunitz)
1)Explain advantages/disadvantages of a range of methods used by psychologists including experiments, correlation, observation, case study questionnaire.
2)Access limitations of these methods and explain how some of these may be overcome.
3)Explain what is meant by the terms variables (independent, dependent, confounding,) control sampling, and sources of bias.
4) Explain how variables can be controlled and sources can be reduced.
5)Explain importance of ethical considerations in psychology and why some types of study would be unethical.
6)Explain what is meant by a null hypothesis.
7)Explain what is meant by statistical significance.
8)Explain what is meant by parametric and non parametric test and give 1 example of each.
9)use GRAVE ANALYSIS to evaluate my experiment using research on the topic of memory.
10)conclusion-suggest areas for further research eg(if redone close all windows, not students, equal age range and sex of participants)
