Kindness as a counseling intervention for at risk elementary school students
Purpose
The goal of this assignment is for the Advanced Intern to design and implement a counseling intervention specific to the needs of the school site in which the intern is immersed. The guiding research question for this project is: How do counseling interventions and counseling programs enhance students success in learning to live, learning to learn, and learning to work?
Proposal
1. Identify a specific counseling/guidance need or intervention at the internship site.
Examples might include: body image among 7th grade males, effective use of a crisis management plan, assisting 7th grade girls with conflict resolution skills, group techniques for 5th grade boys in need of effective social skills, assisting counselors with technology skills, group work with parents, improved means of teacher collaboration.
2. Write a 2-3 paragraph rationale for choosing the topic. Discuss this need and ideas for your intervention with the site supervisor. Work in collaboration to create an agreement outlining the Action Research Project requirements. Work with the site supervisor to obtain permission from the Administration to conduct your study.
3. Submit agreements from both the site supervisor and the administration to your University supervisor.
4. Once written approval is obtained from your site supervisor, administration, and University supervisor, progress with the study.
Action Research Project Outline: Part I
In 8-10 pages (APA format) write a scholarly research proposal. The proposal and final draft must reflect the following outline.
Title Page
The title page should include a running head, page number, proposal title, students name and name of the university in APA format.
Abstract
150-200 words
Include keywords
Introduction (1-1 pages)
Based on observations, determine an area of need.
What is the area of need identified?
What has been done at the site previously?
Brief synopsis of what the literature says about this need/problem (did the authors seem to be in agreement or did you find some differences of opinions or different outcomes among the authors?).
Literature Review (3- 3 pages)
Write a scholarly review of the literature on the chosen topic, using a minimum of six research references that have been published within the last six years.
Identify/use literature that informs the intervention.
Methods (2-2 pages)
