THE DISCUSSION WAS:
Describe a news story or professional experience in which someone claimed that a doctor, nurse, hospital, nursing home, or other healthcare provider did not treat them with the appropriate standard of care. Briefly discuss what happened. How was the situation handled? Do you believe the standard of care was violated? If so, how? The best answers will relate concepts from this week’s materials. Respond to the posts of at least two of your classmates.
I WILL PUT WHAT I SAID FOR THE DISCUSSION IN THE FILES IF THAT WILL HELP
BUT NOW I HAVE TO RESPOND TO A PEER SO HERE IS WHAT THE PEER SAID:
Discussion Post
In a recent healthcare scandal resembling the tragic demise of Michael Jackson, the pseudonymous pop star Aria Harmony brought forth alarming allegations of medical negligence against her attending physician, Dr. Melody Wells. Seeking relief for chronic pain, Aria claimed Dr. Wells deviated from the appropriate standard of care, prescribing an excessive amount of a potent painkiller without a comprehensive medical history examination. Aria contended that her complaints of adverse side effects were disregarded, and the monitoring of her condition was inadequate. The situation escalated on August 20, 2023, when Aria suffered a severe reaction to the medication, leading to her emergency hospitalization to stabilize her condition.
Swiftly addressing the allegations, a medical review board convened on November 15, 2023, to thoroughly investigate the incident involving pop star Aria Harmony and Dr. Melody Wells (Grad, 2019).The board scrutinized medical records, interviewed both parties, and sought expert opinions to determine if the healthcare provider had breached the accepted standard of care. The findings unveiled lapses in Dr. Wells’ approach, including an excessive dosage surpassing recommendations for Aria’s medical condition and an inadequate response to reported side effects. Dr. Wells faced disciplinary action—license suspension and mandatory training. Aria Harmony initiated legal proceedings, alleging medical malpractice during her recovery.
