Introduction
In this lesson, you will begin to explore mood disorders that can affect patients across the life span. More children and adolescents are currently being diagnosed with a mood disorder than at any other previous time in history. It is critical to understand how this type of condition manifests in younger individuals versus adults, and how to intervene appropriately at the earlier time possible.
A crisis situation is one in which a patient may be experiencing suicidal ideation and/or threatening to hurt themselves. An emergent situation in which the patient is in imminent danger. These topics will be explored from the vantage point of a patient or caregiver who needs information, as well as from the PMHNP perspective.
