Ethical principles are of utmost importance for nurse practitioners because they direct your practice.
Review the Values and Ethics Competencies below (found in Box 13.5 on p. 338 of your text Hamric and Hanson’s Advanced Practice Nursing: An Integrative Approach):
Place the interests of patients and populations at the center of interprofessional health care delivery.
Respect the dignity and privacy of patients while maintaining confidentiality in the delivery of team-based care.
Embrace the cultural diversity and individual differences that characterize patients, populations, and the health care team.
Respect the unique cultures, values, roles and responsibilities, and expertise of other health professions.
Work in cooperation with those who receive care, those who provide care, and others who contribute to or support the delivery of prevention and health services.
Develop a trusting relationship with patients, families, and other team members.
Demonstrate high standards of ethical conduct and quality of care in one’s contributions to team-based care.
Manage ethical dilemmas specific to interprofessional patient/population-centered care situations.

Identify an ethical issue you would face as a nurse practitioner (NP).
Prepare an 18- to 20-slide PowerPoint presentation with speaker notes—titled "Ethical Dilemma”—that presents your chosen ethical issue to your organization’s board of ethics and includes your recommended solution and possible policy change. Complete the following:
Create an “ethical dilemma” addressing your chosen issue.
Identify which provision of the nursing code of ethics would be violated based on the ethical dilemma you selected.
Describe how the code of ethics could be used to address the selected ethical issue.
Discuss how you would raise awareness among other providers and staff in your workplace about the ethical dilemma selected.
Explain how you might apply Watson’s theory of human caring as a guide when encountering ethical decisions.
Explain how the “Values and Ethics Competencies” can be used to address this case.
Cite references to support your assignment.

All PPs should have speaker notes.
Your speaker notes should preview or highlight the information on your slides. The text
on the slides should be short phrases or bullet points and there should not be more than
6 lines on each leach slide. You must provide citations within the PP. The citations can
be in the speaker notes or on the slide. All clip art and photos should have a citation.
Please avoid using any logo, photos, or clip art that has a copyright unless you are
granted permission. You can obtain free clip art and photos from Creative Commons or
Free Use. Do not submit a PDF. Make sure you carefully review the criteria for each
