NUR 400 Final Project Guidelines and Rubric
Overview:
The final project deliverable for this course is a Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT) presentation based on the work done in previous milestones. The final project is the presentation of a quality improvement initiative proposal stemming from a patient care issue identified in your healthcare organization. The proposal provides strategies for quality improvement utilizing evidence-based resources. The final project combines the content from the milestones and covers topics including leadership styles, organizational structure, financial and reimbursement implications, interprofessional collaboration, and change theory. The presentation also includes a concise plan for implementation and evaluation of the proposed initiative.
This deliverable provides an opportunity to demonstrate sophisticated and critical analysis skills by synthesizing the information from a healthcare organization and evidence-based resources to create a well-articulated presentation to leadership to improve the quality of patient care. These skills and abilities are essential for nursing professionals who hope to drive positive, sound organizational change within the healthcare industry.
For this project, you will have the option of using your current healthcare organization, a previous employer, an organization you had experience with during clinicals as a student, or the provided alternative case study as the basis for your presentation.
In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcomes:
1. Evaluate tracer methodology as an effective and sustainable means of measuring quality delivery of care
2. Assess theories of change for their applicability and use in promoting performance improvement initiatives in healthcare organizations
3. Analyze organizational processes that impact communication and flow of survey-required quality data throughout the healthcare institution
4. Recommend interprofessional strategies that improve nursing-sensitive quality indicators
5. Articulate the role of leadership in the planning, analysis, and implementation of performance improvement initiatives within the organization
6. Analyze the relationship between quality outcomes and value-based reimbursement in healthcare for improvement opportunities

What to Submit:
Your presentation should be a Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT) presentation of approximately 15–20 slides, not including reference slides and introductory slides. References and in-text citations should use proper APA formatting. You should include appropriate speaker notes, and you may include an audiovisual recording of your presentation in your submission.
TIPS FROM THE TEACHER:
Here are some Final Project tips I wanted to share based on areas where points are commonly lost on the Final Project (a PowerPoint presentation):
1.Try your hardest to submit your assignments on time- losing points for tardiness, especially on this assignment, will add up quickly.
2. Use the outline with the headers for your slides – this will be helpful to ensure that you have addressed each question being asked.
2b. There are a few items that you need to write about that weren’t covered in your milestone assignments – don’t miss these!
3. Please be sure to review and incorporate the milestone grading feedback into your final project. I have given you hints on what I will be looking for based on the rubrics so you can earn the maximum points.
4. You MUST include speaker’s notes OR voice over – don’t crowd your slides with all of the information. The slides should be bullet points highlighting the material. Remember this is as if you were giving a presentation to your organization proposing your initiative. You will use your voice or speaker’s notes to share most of the information. You will want to be concise with your presentation, catching and keeping your speaker’s attention, but in depth enough to include all of the necessary information!
5. Do NOT copy paste your milestones into a power point! This is a presentation – condense the information into what you would speak during it to meet the requirements and catch the listener’s attention without dragging on!
6. Know I am here to help so if you have any questions, please let me know. I would MUCH prefer you ask questions than lose points for not asking!
7. Have fun putting together your PowerPoint – use graphics, pictures or design elements to add interest!
ALSO:
Your PowerPoint slides will hold the bullet points of your presentation. You will also need to include either speaker’s notes for what you will say for each slide or include a voice over actually speaking the presentation. Think about when you attend a conference, or even a lecture in a classroom setting- the PowerPoint slides contain bullet points and the presenter talks about what is on each of the slides -the extra information that the presenter says about the slide goes into the speaker’s notes or in the voice over.
I highly, very highly (did I say highly?), recommend that you use the rubric headings as the prompts for the slides.
