You have just finished studying the treatment of anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders may be comorbid with stress-related disorders, or stress-related disorder symptoms (e.g., hypervigilance, exaggerated response, irritability) may be interpreted as anxiety. Please be aware that some of the recommended medications for anxiety are not recommended in the treatment of stress disorders, specifically benzodiazepines.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a stress-related disorder that affects approximately 9% of people in the United States over the course of their lifetime (AMA, 2013). With this statistic in mind, you should be aware of recommendations for screening and treatment of PTSD. In this course, you will focus on the medication management recommendations for PTSD.
To learn more about the pharmacological management of PTSD, please do the following:
Review the Clinical Practice Guideline for the Treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in Adults (2017).
Review the recommended pharmacological management of PTSD in your Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Review Manual pp. 222–225.
Identify similarities and differences between the two documents.
Prepare a 1-page table in Microsoft Word that you can share with brand new PMHNPs that highlights the similarities and differences in the pharmacological management of PTSD between the PMHNP review manual and the APA 2017 Decision-Making Guide.
Cite and format your reference according to APA guidelines.
