• Spend several hours reviewing various health policy websites to get yourself started and to get to know the type of information they provide in relation to the policy topic of your choice. Please refer to the Policy Websites page in the Course Home for a list of organizations to check as a jumping off point. Include links to the websites you found most helpful at the bottom of the assignment.
• Assignment Following Step 1 of the General Method presented in the Smith textbook, prepare an assignment which answers the following questions about the policy topic you want to work on. Err on the side of more detail than less, as this will be the first substantive dive into the project, and the more you give me to work with (for feedback) the better I can help direct you.

• What policy actions (underway or anticipated) are related to your topic? Be specific: At what level (i.e. local, state, federal), what type of policy actions (i.e. allocative, regulatory)?
• Does a policy exist already?
Problem
• What conditions are problematic?
• What problem do these conditions present?
• How do I define the problem?
• How do others define the problem?
Actors
• What are the key actors?
• What are their roles (think also of demander or suppliers of policy)?
• What are their interests?
• Who else has a significant role or interest in the process?
Politics
• What are the major disagreements or conflicts?
• What are the major agreements or common interests?
• Which actors are most likely to influence the process or the outcome?
