At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
• Demonstrate an understanding of the subjective and objective data, both normal and abnormal, related to the postpartum physical exam. (CO1)
• Identify and describe common postpartum complications, appropriate treatments and interventions, and follow-up for those office visits. (CO2)
• Demonstrate an understanding of common gynecologic pelvic disorders, associated differentials, diagnostic testing, subjective and objective data, treatment, and appropriate follow-up in primary care. (CO2)
• Identify/describe benign and malignant breast disorders and associated diagnostic testing as well as interventions, if warranted. (CO7)

These readings will help you understand the nurse practitioner’s role with regard to postpartum complications, lactation conditions, menstrual disorders, and other gynecological conditions in primary care.
ASSIGNMENT:
Assignment Guidelines
Select one of the many postpartum complications listed on pp. 590–603 of the Women’s Health: A Primary Care Clinical Guide textbook. Assume that you are seeing a patient with that complication.
• Describe your patient (demographics, vitals, weight).
• List subjective and objective data.
• Provide two differential diagnoses.
• Suggest appropriate intervention (pharmaceutical or non-pharmaceutical).
• Describe appropriate follow-up.
