PICOT Question is :Will the emphasis of nursing assessment regarding need for and the early removal of indwelling catheters decrease the number of catheter device days and the incidence of CAUTI?
P- Catheter Associated Infections in Acute Care Settings.
I -Establish criteria for catheter use and early removal.
C– No criteria for usage, leave catheter in place for length of stay
COMPARSION with other intervention: Poor hand hygiene, in proper use of aseptic technique during catheter insertion, Lack of education by the staff on Foley catheter care, not monitoring and documenting feedback on patient with urinary catheter, unnecessary catheterization without appropriate indication and leaving urinary catheters in place for a long period time
O- Decrease in CAUTI
OUTCOME: decrease in incidence of catheter acquired urinary tract infection, decrease in length of hospital stay, decrease in cost of treatment, decrease in fall rate and increase in patient satisfaction.
T- period of hospital stay/ tracking over 3 months
