Malicious software… For years, we’ve been protecting our computers with from intrusions with the likes of McAfee, Norton, AVG, etc… Malware, which includes such things as viruses, worms, trojan horses, spyware, adware and other malicious programs, are designed for various reasons ranging from simple entertainment to government sponsored attacks like the Flame and Stuxnet. Oddly enough, we don’t seem to hear much about malware infiltrating the mobile device arena, which to me, is very concerning. It’s not that mobile devices aren’t being attacked, heck some have malware activity increasing at a staggering rate of 150% over the last year! So what’s up? Is it an issue or not? Why is security so different for mobile devices?
This is actually an area of extreme interest to me, especially when it relates to the healthcare industry, so I look forward to the research that comes out of this paper.
This paper will involve research into this topic and can include, but is not limited to:
1. The history of mobile device malware.
2. Current state of affairs.
3. Techniques of thwarting malware.
4. Comparison between Android and iOS.
5. Future outlook
Here’s a link to an article that speaks to the area of research that I’m currently doing which gives an idea to the dangers lurking ahead:
