You will be choosing 1 of the following 7 topics for your visualizing sociology essay:

The topic you chose for your visualizing sociology essay is your MAIN TOPIC and it
determines which 2 additional topics you will be assigned. For each of the 2
additional topics, you will be submitting a photo and brief description.
There are three due dates for this assignment. Each student will have something
due for each due date (either a photo with a brief description or a photo with a
longer essay). Please see the tables below- find the table for your MAIN TOPIC- this
table will tell you when your assignments are due. The three due dates are as
follows:
• Wed. April 11 by 11:59pm
• Wed. April 18 by 11:59pm
• Sun. April 29 by 11:59pm
INSTRUCTIONS FOR 1 PHOTO WITH VISUALIZING SOCIOLOGY ESSAY
For your MAIN TOPIC you are being asked to submit an original photo that relates to
the topic as we are discussing it in lecture and through course readings. You should
submit 1 document that includes your photo at the top and your visualizing
sociology essay.
Your photo and essay should meet the following criteria:
• 1 photo that you take and upload into essay. The photo should be located at
the top of your assignment document and it should connect to the MAIN
TOPIC of your essay.
• A maximum of 3 pages of double-spaced text (this does NOT include the
space taken up by your photo) connecting your photo to lecture and at least 1
course reading on your topic.
• Here are some suggestions, but please feel free to be creative- just remember
to engage with at least 1 course reading when explaining how your photo
connects to your main topic.
o You might focus on one or two specific concepts and delve deeply into
defining and explaining the concepts and then demonstrating how it
applies to your photo.

o You might focus on providing an overview of a main theme/topic from
the reading with a rich description of how the theme/topic connects
to your photo.
• Include a works cited page where you clearly identify which course reading
you are engaging with throughout your essay. Author name and title of
reading is sufficient.
