This week we are going to discuss working as a team to create the curriculum. One person does not create the curriculum or own the curriculum. Below is a scenario for you to think about with questions to consider. Like the last module, please do not list your answers! Instead, your posting should be a scholarly discussion of your thoughts about the scenario. Support your thoughts with citations/references.

A 4-year university with a BSN program and a community college with a two-year ADN program has entered into a collaborative partnership. The community college will offer the first two years of the BSN program, and the university will offer the third and fourth years. There is an agreement to develop a new curriculum together. Participants from both institutions and the health community will work collaboratively to develop the new BSN curriculum. As the first order of business, a curriculum development leader must be chosen.

Questions for Consideration and Analysis

1. Describe matters that the dean of nursing at the University and the Chair at the Community College should discuss regarding the leadership of the collaborative curriculum development project.

2. What factors should be considered when deciding on leadership for the collaborative curriculum development process?

3. How might a curriculum leader be selected or appointed? Who should the leader be? Should there be two leaders, one for each institution? Why or why not? How could community nursing leaders contribute to the leadership of the curriculum development enterprise?

4. Should any thought be given to choosing a leader from outside both institutions, in an effort to avoid bias from either school? What would be the advantages and disadvantages of such a choice?
