For this first assignment, start by listing out the underlying health or health care problems that are related to your project topic and/or health leadership work. Post a short description of the public policy issues (such as laws, regulations, funding, programs) that connect to the underlying problems you listed, and explain why you think there is a connection.
For example, if my project was about enacting new metrics derived from the electronic health record, the underlying “health care” problem might be quality of care (perhaps for a specific health condition). However, the policy topics related to the underlying problem might be government involvement in HIT – perhaps federal incentives for meaningful use through the HITECH to promote adoption of systems that produce data from which to measure quality (underlying problems) but also to determine accountability for public payments (a different but related problem).
