THE DISCUSSION WAS:
First, introduce yourself to the class. Include your major and anything you would like to share about yourself. Then address the prompt below.
Evidence-based practice has become the known foundation for clinical practice decision making within the nursing profession. However, various ways of knowing such as history, theory, and research are all important within the nursing practice discipline.
In this post provide a short introduction of yourself to your peers and instructor. Then, continue your initial post by responding to the following:
1. Describe the value of evidence-based nursing practice.
2. Explore how nursing knowledge and evidence-based practice is influenced by history, theory, and research.
3. Describe barriers to implementing evidence-based practice.
I PUT WHAT I SAID FOR THE DISCUSSION IN FILES
NOW WE HAVE TO:
For your response posts, choose two peers and provide strategies for overcoming the barriers identified in their postings. How might one overcome resistance to implementing evidence-based practice?
Demonstrate more depth and thought than saying things like “I agree” or “You are wrong.” Guidance is provided for you in the discussion prompt.
THE PEER SAID:
In nursing, evidence-based practice refers to the provision of comprehensive, high-quality care that is grounded in the most recent research and knowledge, as opposed to conventional practices, peer advice, or personal convictions. Research findings can be gathered, analyzed, and applied by nurses to enhance their practical skills and broaden their knowledge. The central concern of evidence-based practice is the patient, who is the foundation of nursing. Discover why scientifically supported practice in nursing is, why it matters, and how to apply it to the care you give patients daily. “Evidence-based practice demands changes in education of students, more practice-relevant research, and closer working relationships between clinicians and researchers. Evidence-based practice also provides opportunities for nursing care to be more individualized, more effective, streamlined, and dynamic, and to maximize effects of clinical judgment” (Youngblut, 2001). Nursing care keeps up with the most recent advances in technology and benefits from new knowledge developments when evidence is used to establish optimal procedures rather than to support current practices.
Over centuries, nursing has changed. The practices and events of the past have influenced nursing knowledge. For example, Florence Nightingale’s work throughout the Crimean War established the groundwork for contemporary nursing, which places a strong emphasis on patient care and hygiene. The knowledge of nursing can be impacted by local and cultural customs. Nursing practices may vary depending on the cultural perspective on healing and healthcare. Nursing standards and ethics have evolved in response to significant events like the 19th-century founding of the American Nursing Association (ANA). The corpus of nursing knowledge is enhanced by these historical turning points. A framework for comprehending and utilizing nursing knowledge is provided by nursing theory. Nursing practice is guided by theories that provide structured models for patient care, such as Dorothea Orem’s Self-Care Theory and Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring. Translation of knowledge and application theories form the foundation of evidence-based practice theories, or EBP. EBP theories assist nurses in comprehending how to incorporate findings from studies into their practice, guaranteeing that patient care is founded on the most up-to-date evidence. New knowledge produced by nursing research influences practice. Scholars explore diverse facets of healthcare, ranging from patient results to therapeutic approaches. For instance, studies may look at how well a certain diabetes management strategy works. Research is crucial to EBP. To make knowledgeable clinical decisions, nurses thoroughly examine and take into account the results of recent research. To select the best wound care treatment, for example, a nurse may conduct research. Nursing research makes sure that the field is always changing and adapting to new problems in healthcare. Nurses can adjust to evolving requirements for patients and technological advancements through ongoing research. Research, theory, and history are all intrinsically linked to nursing knowledge and EBP. Nursing knowledge is developed through a combination of factors such as research findings, nursing theories, cultural influences, and historical context. As a result, nursing practice is informed by this knowledge, guaranteeing that patient care is supported by evidence and consistent with the field’s developing understanding of healthcare. Evidence-based practice and nursing knowledge are influenced by research, theory, and history. A foundation is provided by history, which includes historical turning points and cultural influences. While research produces fresh knowledge that supports evidence-based practice and ensures that nursing adjusts to changing healthcare needs, nursing theories provide frameworks to comprehend patient care.
Lack of time, lack of supervision and support, lack of resources, and lack of education and training are some of the obstacles to implementing EBP. This is how common barriers are for nurses to apply EBP and how important it is to research it in order to get past them. The most frequent obstacle faced by nurses was time. For example, they often lack the resources to read research or make the changes mandated by evidence-based practice (EBP). This is often due to a shortage of staff in healthcare organizations, which increases workloads. When it comes to formulating clinical questions concerning patient care and safety, nurses are essential. However, a barrier to the implementation of EBP is a nurse’s lack of knowledge. It is therefore imperative that nurses acquire fundamental knowledge and competencies in research and evidence-based practice in order to utilize the best available evidence when delivering the care needed to enhance healthcare and reduce costs. Encouraging the implementation of evidence-based practice is the responsibility of nursing administrators and educators. Thus, the nursing administrators need to get past the obstacles that have been found. The application of evidence-based practice, which improves the quality of care, can be facilitated by providing sufficient supervision, arranging nursing time, supporting nurses with the necessary resources, and raising the level of nursing knowledge and skills through training and education. Further studies might concentrate on obstacles to implementing EBP that affect patients and their families.
