Module 1 Components – Personality Portion (10 points)

For Module 1, students must:

It means that you need to think about your ‘Personality Type’ and how that ‘Personality Type’ would ‘Present’ something! You are making a presentation worth 35% of your grade.

Module 2 Components – Facility Presentation Portion (15 points)

Name your facility

Define you facility including what type, how many beds, etc.

Describe your staffing and team creation at the facility

Describe legal considerations at the facility

Describe ethical considerations at the facility

Describe the cultural development of the facility

Describe your coaching skills

For Module 2, students must:

Present how they have become an effective leader, utilizing demonstrated characteristics. This can be in the current work setting (if student currently works in a leadership position) or an imagined leadership setting.

**What does this mean?

It means that you need to ‘develop’ a facility which you are the ‘leader’ for the purpose of this assignment.

You must define your facility…What type…how many beds (if acute care)…how many staff (what’s your team like)…among many other things covered in Module 2…

If you already work as a Nursing Leader…you may (and should) use your real facility. If you do not work in a Leadership position, you are going to put yourself in a leadership position for this assignment, so you need to ‘create’ a ‘facility’ to lead.

Acknowledge your facility’s accreditation agency and briefly explain the process of how you promoted and pursue this within your facility (if you have chosen not to pursue accreditation, you must explain why this is not attained or being pursued

**What does this mean?

It means that you need to identify a leadership theory to which you adhere as a leader. It is okay for you to follow ‘pieces’ of various leadership theories…you just have to identify those components.

You must “forecast” for your facility…

You need to identify the regulatory agencies to which you are accountable for the facility in which you are the leader (either the one you created, or the one in which you actually lead.

Last…you need to promote accreditation for your facility if you are pursuing it, or have already attained it. If, as the leader of your facility, you have chosen not to pursue an accrediting agency, you must address why this is not attained or being pursued…

For Module 5, students must:

Provide a generalized marketing plan addressing your target audience and key marketing strategies

Identify your plan to retain and motivate all of your employees (ANYTHING, BE CREATIVE)

Demonstrate your mutual relationship with Human Resources (HR) and all its dimensions

Provide evidence of who you answer to and how/why you answer to them (possibly an organizational chart, but may be any format) (BE CREATIVE, CAN BE ON INCIDENTS< SENDING A PATIENT TO THE HOSPITAL, STAFFS STAYING OVERTIME)

This must include:

Marketing Plan (Generalized)

Employee Retention Plan (and Motivation) _

Strategic Collaboration with Human Resources

Accountability

**What does this mean?

It means that you need to demonstrate a general marketing plan for your facility – after all, healthcare is now a business!

Make sure you delineate your ‘target audience’ in your presentation

Make sure your marketing ideas will reach your ‘target audience’ and be financially feasible

Remember that it is more expensive to hire and train than to retain…so you need to demonstrate how you are motivating and retaining your ‘team’ (which you identified early on in this assignment)…

Demonstrate your relationship with HR – This should definitely be multi-dimensional.

Last…to whom do you answer in your facility? I’m thinking an organizational chart will

suffice…but again, you may ‘present’ this in any format you desire.

Your ROI Presentation Portion must include:

Your Marketing Plan inclusive of your target audience and key marketing strategies

Your plan to retain and motivate ALL of your employees

Discuss your networking plans and how you plant to keep up with the latest issues – also include the emerging issues that relate to your facility

**What does this mean?

It means that you need to demonstrate a generalized Disaster Plan for your facility – think about:

Where your facility is located…

The type of facility you are leading (and Regulatory Requirements)..

Demonstrate how you will plan for succession…

Do you have mentoring or training built into your leadership?

Does your organizational chart/structure include succession?

Last…how are you networking to “keep-up” with the latest issues? What are the issues that relate to your facility?
