I do not currently participate in any nursing organizations although I am interested in joining one. Like most adults, I am always in a race against time, but I do feel it would be beneficial to be apart of something that represents nursing and can benefit my career. The American nursing association is one that has always held my interest and has always had relevance to everything we do and learn. I feel like of the ones I have researched, I can gain a lot through being apart of their organization. My plan going forward is to continue school and complete my masters with the end goal to being to become an ARNP. I have not decided what specialty I want to practice, but I know that is certainly the path I want to take. I feel that while I am in the mode of going to school and doing homework I may as well continue with this momentum and continue to better myself. My ultimate goal is to be a nurse that really makes a difference in my patients lives. Sometimes the task can be daunting and even overwhelming, but I embrace the challenge! I wish you all the best on your individual journeys as nurses, it’s been a pleasure learning with you all!

One of the resources at the CDC Wonder site that may be used by practicing nurses is the Sexually Transmitted Disease morbidity data. The STD morbidity data are cases reported to the National Centers for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD & TB prevention, and CDC. Different cases and incidences of disease are reported by the year, type of STD, area of report, gender/age group, and race/ethnicity in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, and Guam (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2022). Nurses may use this information tool to educate patients on STD prevention and the prevention of spreading a disease.

Nurses utilizing telehealth may benefit from these resources by having improved, easier access to patient care and monitoring. Telehealth is a great tool being used in public health for underserved population and creating a good patient-provider relationship. These resources are also great for nurses to have to be able to send and receive, as well as keep track of important health information (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2020).

What I find innovative about the link is that it shows current and past data on the rates of STDs. For example, the rates are calculated as incidences of a reported disease divided by the population. This number is then multiplied by 100,000 (a default rate) which gives us the rate per so many people. This link is also a great tool for educational purposes.

Nursing innovations are important to improve healthcare all around. One innovation crossed my mind a few days ago while working and trying to find a tab to see documented weights. Having an EHR system at my job that groups nursing tasks/assessments together more sensibly would reduce work frustration. For example, a vital sign section that also includes the weight and height instead of having separate sections to look under.
