Introduction

The purpose of this paper is to have a clear understanding of the elements of a theory and apply the theory into practice.  This paper will analyze the connection between Jeans Watson’s caring theory and patient satisfaction scores.  Nurses’ work environment is emblematically associated with the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient satisfaction scores.  Therefore, as nurses, we should constantly devise ways to boost patient satisfaction scores. There are numerous ways nurses can improve patient satisfaction scores.  Primarily, nurses should always be compassionate with their patients.  Compassion comes with caring.  The act of caring means nurses understand what patients are going through.  Although nurses have several patients to care, paying close attention to each one is vital.  Nurses must often check on patients and not wait until the patients call.  Anticipating the patient’s needs may not be feasible at times but nurses have to make this a priority over other tasks to increase patient satisfaction scores.
