Starting this program was the first step towards my end goal of being a PMHNP. This class has widened my view on the importance of networking. I am currently writing an itemized list of potential practicum placement preceptors. Setting time aside to meet with these professionals has become a priority. These connections will be the key to my success as a future provider. Planning in advance allows me the opportunity to seek the right fit for me. This list will be beneficial for me to gain experience in the area I will pursue. Keeping track of my path aligns with Walden’s emphasis on social change because it allows me to implement positive educators in my filed experience further promoting growth (Walden University, 2023).
Creating a portfolio would be a great asset to contribute to my professional development goals. Upon completion of this program the goal is to gain long term employment. Health care jobs are very competitive. A resume alone doesn’t make one stand out. A portfolio would allow me to display results of work I have been a part of (What Is a Work Portfolio? A Guide to Building It, 2024). Also, allowing me to explain my roles within each experience. These strengths are important to highlight because the employer may see you are a good fit for the position based on your role and accomplishments. This aligns with Walden’s mission because it will support the success of my future career.
