Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement? Each question should be 275 words. I am a transfer student. Please write well on this.My name is Meng Luan. Almost three years ago I immigrated to the US from China. During this time, I learned a lot about American customs and culture. I studied in Harbor High school in Santa Cruz for two years. I fluently speak two languages: Chinese and English. I would like to study public health or psychology. First major is public health.I have some experience working as a volunteer for SPCA. My main duties were to meet visitors of the center, share information about our mission, and try to persuade them to make donations. Also, I helped to take care of sheltered animals. The biggest lesson I learned from this job is that we should treasure every little thing that we have at the moment and most importantly people who surround us – parents, friends, and teachers. We should be grateful for everything we have, nothing is everlasting. I will certainly keep going with volunteering for SPCA because this job helps to see what is really important in life. The most beautiful things cannot be seen or touched, you can only feel it with your heart. Also, I worked as a volunteer at UCLA Medical Center and at LAC+USC Medical Center. Those were great experiences during my free time. Though, of course, the main job is done by the regular staff of the center, volunteers have plenty of work to do there. While working in these two programs, I had an opportunity to assist people who really needed my help. When I worked there, I realized that I want to become a trained professional, whose work contributes to the whole society. I think that programs like this make young people understand the importance of studying and working hard for the good of other people.I proved to be a hardworking, diligent, and motivated student in school. I am very curious, always ready to study and learn something new. I never avoid group discussions and talking to a big audience. Once I even had a chance to perform a speech for my school. I did not miss a single day at school. I never finished working on any school projects until it was done perfectly, even if it took me to start working from scratch several times. I actively participated in the social life of the school. I am openhearted and easily get along with new people. I am interested in sports, particularly in badminton – once I won the first place in a badminton tournament. Every year I join local running club and prefer active way of life. As for other activities, I sing in chorus, I am fond of arts and reading. It is my third year at Santa Monica College, but I would like to transfer to the University of California because I believe that it is the best choice to study medicine and nursing particularly.I will work hard to reach the best results in studying, so my parents and teachers can be proud of me!
