This summary will be completed and submitted for a grade in this course. This is also a required element of your portfolio
Course Description: A synthesis of theory and epidemiology will enable students to promote health and wellness in patient populations. Current practices, policies, and laws will be explored in relation to environment, infectious disease, vulnerable populations, chronic illness, and global health care issues.

Objectives: At the conclusion of this course students will be able to:
1. Assess the health of individuals, families, communities, and populations across the lifespan to promote health and prevent illness.
2. Analyze the ways in which political, legal, genetic, social, cultural, environmental, economic factors and health policy affect health in selected populations.
3. Assess the health and emergency preparedness needs of special populations in order to provide nursing care in disaster, mass casualty, or emergency situations.
